Berlin – A City Caught Between The Future and The Past

Berlin is an amazing city for photography. With its huge boulevards and open skyline, daylight is in plentiful supply. Achingly moody in the winter months and resplendently green in the summer, Berlin is a city of vivid contrasts. It is both old and new. Scarred by the shadow wall and its WWII past, remnants of both can be seen in its architecture, graffiti and optimistic inhabitants. Berlin has always been magnet for creative people. David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave and U2 have all called this city home and its atmosphere permeates the films of many seminal film directors like Wim Wenders (Wings of Desire).

Modern day Berlin is now genuinely cool without being hipster-ish. Creativity flourishes in amongst its moribund galleries and shops reflecting a can-do culture whose inspirations mirror its multi-cultural reputation. Berlin is a very open city. Moving around is incredibly easy with an efficient transport system and should you ever get lost you’ll be surprise how many of its residents can speak fluent English.

Photography Weekends Structure

Photography Weekends are a 2 day practical course set in the unique environment of a different country. This is a more expansive group course where the challenge is to how best capture this unique location together with its different culture, language and inhabitants.

As with the Group Course, each day will start with a briefing (delivered in English) with practical advice including how best to capture  this city and its people. This is an exclusive group course experience where each day finishes with a live review of the group’s photographs and a fantastic meal together at one of the city’s great restaurants afterwards. Depending on the class size, you will be asked to choose between 5-7 of your best shots that best reflect the brief. By examining not only your own work but that of the rest of the group you will gain critical insights that will help inform your future photography.

Who would this course suit?

Gift Vouchers.Photography Weekends ideally suit any intermediate to advanced photographers with a keen interest in travel and reportage photography. Shooting in a different location, followed-up with a live, constructive analysis afterwards will help accelerate your photography and increase your confidence. Documenting a city and its inhabitants is an excellent training in developing not only your eye for a great photo but also your visual story-telling skills.  If you would like to attend simply register your interest by clicking the ‘register’ button.

Those attending should be comfortable with their own photo equipment, ready to work, and have a reasonable fluency in the English language, as this workshop will be taught in English.

Evening meals are included in the price of the booking whereas you will be expected to make their own arrangements regarding travel and accommodation; a list of suitable accommodation options can be provided upon request. Please ensure you have all the necessary travel documents & relevant visas in order to attend this event before booking. If you are considering purchasing a place on this Photography Weekend as a birthday or Christmas present(s) please contact us here or call +44 (0)7866 430979 or +49 176 6572703 beforehand.

Small Class Sizes

People learn at different speeds. Where some might like 1-2-1 training others prefer to learn in a group. Either way I like to keep class sizes small (3-5 people max) because I don’t want you to be lost in a crowd. By keeping things small and intimate I can really get to know both you and your photography better. This way I can explain not only how you can use your camera better, but also identify opportunities and turn half-chances into a pivotal moments.

How often are Photography Weekends?
