In the baking-hot sunlight of Santorini donkey trains climb up the steep port steps of the island’s capital Fira. Ferrying their cargo of tourists to and from the quayside up and down the steep gradient the work is back breaking. Pressing their heads against the cooler, shaded stone walls, the stress and strain is etched on the faces of the servile donkeys.
